A model of the chamber organ built by Daniel Prib (2007)

(French version of this page available, translation: G. Lefranc)

A non-expiring shareware virtual organ featuring newly built chamber organ from the workshop of Daniel Prib from Prague, Czech Republic. This organ was conceived as a solo concert instrument. The scaling of the voices was optimized for larger churches while the ease of transport had to be maintained. The construction of the organ was finished in August 2007.
It has 5 speaking stops:
  • Bordun 8’ – it is based on early Baroque type found in the work of Steffan Kuntz or Nicolaus Manderscheidt. Similar Burdon is to be found in the Slovak chair organ in Antol from the second third of 17th century. Pipes of rather thick scale (mensura) offer good foundation of the disposition of the organ.

  • Flauto 4’ – stopped wooden voice with clear sound can be used in conjunction with Bordun or alone as a solo stop, or a foundation to aliquotes.

  • Prinzipal 2’ – open wooden pipes are scaled and voiced according to the Principale of the “organo di legno” of the St. Maria di Montepulciano. Very significant is the initial “chiff” due to rather low mouth apertures (less than ¼ L). It can be used also as a solo stop, especially in the bass.

  • Quint 1 1/3', tin, principal scale
  • Mixtur 1' (2 ranks), tin, in fact, it forms 3 rank mixture together with the Quint 1 1/3, but for practical reasons, the Quint can be drawn separately as an individual rank

The compass of the keyboard: 4 octaves and 2 tones (MIDI: from 36-C to 86-D).

Temperament: Bach-Kellner.

Wind pressure: 52 mm w.c.

This chamber organ was recorded twice.

1) Ambiental recording: using the AB stereo technique with two omnidirectional microphones spaced about 50 cm apart, located just above the pipework. The recording took place in the chapel in the vicinity of the Prib's workshop. The sample set is almost dry, low level reverberation time is less than 2 seconds. There are multiple attack samples and 3 levels of release samples (staccato, portamento, legato).

  • RAM consumption (HW2 - or HW3 - 16-bit, all attack and full release samples, with memory compression): 874 MB
  • Available for Hauptwerk 1 (suitable also for MyOrgan) as well as for Hauptwerk (version 2 and higher).

2) Dry mono recording: This recording was done with single mirophone which was moved from pipe to pipe, so that the direct pipe sound was captured, from about 15-25 cm in front of the pipe mouth. This is entirely dry recording, suitable for an addition of an artificial reverb (convolution, ...). The Burdon and Flute have two levels of releases (staccato, long), but to say the truth, there is no discernable difference between them.

  • RAM consumption (16-bit, without memory compression): 300 MB
  • Available for Hauptwerk (version 2 and higher)

You can download the full set for an evaluation. Just compare the sound with your existing sample sets and you will clearly hear the difference of our virtual organs from other manufacturers of the sample sets. The distinctive features of the Hauptwerk version are: no disturbing noise (apart from the blower noise which may be disabled by the user), absolute clarity and musical presence of the pipe tone, purity of the signal, good localization of the listening position. [You have to load the sample set in 24-bit depth and with disabled interpolation to hear it most accurately.] If you like the sound and if you intend to use it beyond the evaluation period (1 month), please make your contribution by paying the appropriate amount. Your contribution helps to keep our recording projects running.

 for Hauptwerk ver. 2 or 3 (1.3GB)
for Hauptwerk-1 or MyOrgan (163MB), version of 16th November 2007
If you downloaded Hauptwerk-1 version of the sample set prior to 16th November 2007, please download also this patch correcting the lowest C bug in the mixture rank. Extract the file found in the downloaded patch (rar-archive) and replace the 036-C.wav file in the "mix" subdirectory in your Prib Chamber organ installation folder. This patch applies only to the Hauptwerk 1 installation, it is not useful for Hauptwerk 2 or 3 installation!!! Hauptwerk 2 or 3 installation does not suffer from this bug.
